Musgrove Park Hospital gets new art.

Fetal Medicine Team - Musgrove Park Hospital

Musgrove Park Hospital is a large NHS hospital located in Taunton, Somerset, England, run by Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. Originally a US Army General Hospital during the Second World War, it became an NHS hospital in 1951.
We collaborated with artist Sarah Gwyer after being approached to help out.  Sarah and the team at Hatch decide to donate 'Lily' to the new Fetal Medicine Clinic at the hospital.

The team at Musgrove Hospital provides specilaist care for pregnant women with ultrasound scanning and fetal medicine.

Dr Katarina Harrison Tvarozkova MCROG - Lead Consultant Fetal Medicine.
“The Fetal Medicine team and I wanted our new clinic space at Musgrove Hospital to have a positive impact on the way our patients think and feel. I believe that art helps transform stark clinical environments into warm, compassionate care spaces filled with inspiration.”

“The Lily by multi-award-winning artist Sarah Gwyer was chosen for its vibrant colours and unique composition. Also, each different variety of lily holds a different meaning. But the most common definition is purity and fertility. The beauty of the lily flower has given it the association of new life and rebirth. We chose the Pink lily as they stand for love, femininity and admiration”
Hatch Contemporary

Lynn Borthwick, Specialist Midwife. “We have received so much positive feedback about the art from our patents, a big thank you to Hatch Contemporary art gallery and Sarah for donating it”

Award-winning artist Sarah Gwyer was born in Gloucestershire, now lives and works in the Cotswolds. She describes her practice as ‘Contemporary Pop’, drawing together influences from pop artists Andy Warhol and James Rosenquist through to contemporary artists Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst.

After studying Fine Art in Cardiff, Gwyer headed straight to London to study a Masters in Printmaking at the University of the Arts, London. By the time of her graduate show she was exhibiting simultaneously in London and New York.

Working across textiles, sculpture and print, Gwyer's unique work reflects on the themes of celebrity, consumerism and commercialism, using well-known faces and pop imagery. She loves to merge the boundaries between art and craft practices, pushing traditional ways of working to new levels and audiences. Her subjects include Lady Gaga, Elton John, Amy Winehouse and Beyonce.

‘It was a pleasure to donate ‘Lily’ to Musgrove Hospital. Every pregnancy journey is experienced uniquely but I hope it’s intricate design provides reflection and comfort during their time there' Sarah Gwyer
